Practice
Meditative, gestural, automatic abstraction. Oil on canvas, sometimes embellished with semi-precious stones (amber, malachite, amethyst, quartz) pressed into the surface during the final layers. Rather than depicting the visible world, the work records states of attention, presence, and inner experience. The resulting paintings are intended to bring a sense of calm, energy, and contemplation to the spaces they inhabit. Connoisseurs have drawn comparisons to Joan Mitchell, Mark Tobey, Édouard Manet, and Edvard Munch. The practice grows out of more than thirty years of Vipassana meditation.
